All of a sudden, my cocker spaniel has got the worst breath... so bad it
makes me gag. I first noticed it on Christmas. I thought maybe he just ate
a turd or something (you never know) but it is still so disgusting I can't
even tell you. I am going to call the vet monday morning, but what do you
suppose could be the matter?

Could be a sign of renal disease. Get him checked out right away! Here's
hoping for the best....

Or periodontal disease, which could lead to very serious illness.

......Might be an abcessed tooth. Make sure they check the teeth carefully.
Could also be something wrong with the digestion.

I knew a dog that suddenly got a horrible breath, it was not of this world.
When we took her to the vet they found she had split a tooth and food had
been trapped between the pieces of the broken tooth. Every now and then the
loose piece would move and her breath would stink.
It was easy to fix, they removed the loose piece of tooth and filed the
edges of the remaining tooth. I hope it is something as simple in your dogs
case.
