They look like a gourami or paradise fish of some kind to me, have they
built a bubble nest?

The fish in the photos (excellent photos, by the way!) are indeed Paradise
Fish. They are relared to Gouramis like Dwarf Gourami (I think that when
yoy say "lalia", you mean this species), but they can't crossbreed. There's
nothing which hints that that fish is anything else than a purebred
Paradise Fish.

The fry will survive only in a separate aquarium, not here with those Tiger
Barbs and other fishes. Most likely the aggs are eaten before they even
hatch.

Thanks to everyone that responded. It is indeed a paradise fish, Macroposud
opercularis i think (But maybe M. cupanus dayi). They have buit a
rudiemntary bubblre nest, but they laid the eggs on the glass of the tank
instead of in the nest. Some of the eggs are on the other side of thank,
well away from the nest....

So far, the first batch of eggs hatched - little strings on top of large
yolk sacs. as far as I can tell, none survived. the second batch of eggs
should be hatching in the next few days....

Hi there, and welcome.

Just a friendly FYI......
These particular news groups have low traffic, so make sure to check
the dates on the post.
The original poster asked to ID their fish back in April of '07. This
is October of '08. That's a year and 6 months later.
