25 days ago I lost my best friend Spencer. Spencer was a happy and
seemingly healthy 9 yo dalmatian. It was the most bizarre thing. He
was out keeping me company (as he always did) while I washed the car
in the driveway. My neighbor stopped by and we started talking. As my
neighbor started to walk away, he started petting Spencer and Spencer
playingly (once again the way he always did) started darting up and
down the driveway. He was being silly.. as was his nature and the
words had just left my lips, "Can you believe he is 9 years old?!"
when he came running down these 3 steps ... and then he like fell or
something. I just remember he yarped and fell over onto his back. I
thought he was still playing and started yelling for him (he wasnt far
away at all). When I saw he wasnt getting up and his legs were like
locked straight, I ran to him. I started shaking him.. thinking that
he was having a seizure of something.. Thats when I saw his eyes...
They were buldging out of his head. Less than 30 sec's later he was
gone. Just like that. I still cant believe it. So unexpected. When my
neighbor took him to get him cremated (there is no way that i could
have gathered myself to do so), they asked if we wanted an autopsy to
find the cause of death. I declined. I figured it didnt matter why he
had died. It was obviously a freak thing.. no ones fault. But here I
am almost a month later, and I have to admit... I keep thinking about
what happened to him. More so, why it happened to him. I have looked
in some books and done some research, but I cant seem to find anything
that might explain it. I figure it was either a heart attack, a
seizure, or something, but I just wanted to see if i could get a more
educated opinion. Thanks for listening and sorry this was so long. Boy
do I miss that dog....
