Greetings, fellow pet lovers and parents...

The sad but inevitable has happened --- one of our two little guinea pig
sows, "Crouton", has died.

I observed her ailing rapidly over the last couple of days, and so am not
surprised - I was just hoping so much that it was a temporary illness, but
alas, it was not to be so.

How should I break it to my 10-year-old son Eric? I fear he will be
devastated.

Please, please share with me any **positive** experiences you may have had,
informing your children and involving them in the burial of their little
piggie.

Thank-you,

Paul

Hey there...
I have 2 kids... 12 and 5
and i have had to deal with a few losses
I think they took the pet the worse.
Just be honest. If you believe in heaven then tell them about it.
Just dont lie to them.
Just don't explain it that he/she went to sleep and didnt wake up .. that
could bring alot more problems your way.
Explain the pig got sick or old.
Just be honest.
I know it was hard explaining a death of a pet but we got through it. And
for my younger boy we went out and bought him a stuffed animal that
resembled the animal that passed.
He knows though the "real" one is in heaven and why he is there.
Hope it goes well for you.

Tell him ASAP. When I was eight my parents had my cat put to sleep, but my
mother told me for a week that she had runaway while trying to decide what to
tell me. I felt horrible, as if I had done something wrong, and I would go out
looking for her. Whens he finally did tell me the truth I felt even worse.

You should tell him honestly what happened. Explain that guinea pigs don't live
as long as humans, and that it was just her time to go. Having a funeral for
her will also help.

they become angels and that by gods good will the next pet you by may be placed

in heaven for when you die its a promise you will meet again be very happy its
a gift.

Problem with a guinea pig - Hi This might sound weird, but well.. I have a guinea pig, I think it was yesterday or day before that when I noticed a poop hanging from his bottom half-way out. Today when I picked him up, he had also a poop hanging there. Could this be a problem?..
