how many times is too often to groom your lab whilst they are moulting in
that you dont ruin their natural oils in their coat?

Labs don't moult they shed and they shed year round. As for the brushing
you can do it every day or a couple times a week it depends on how much they
are shedding at the time. I only ever bath my dogs about every 4 to 6
months and if they get stinky some in between a good whiping down with a
cloth soaked in white vinegar helps neutralize any odors.

our two only get bathed about 2 a year but go swimming once or twice a week.
Must say i didn't realise there was a difference between moulting and
shedding , although in saying that our chocolate "sheds" large amounts from
his hind quarters as in moulting.

You can call it whatever you like, but Labs lose their undercoat in the
spring or early summer. This results in large quantities of fur; we
brush Rollo with a pink Zoom Groom every day during this period, which
is now. I've gotten a lot off just by rubbing "against the grain" with
my hand too.

I don't think you can brush too much with the Zoom Groom; I think it
helps the natural oils. Can't speak for other brushes.

BTW, we put the fur in the garden to repel pests.

Rollo is 8 and has had only one washing with soap when he rolled in
something dead. He does love to swim and run around in the rain.

Do they really shed year round?
I find my dog sheds a hell of a lot more during spring summer, and then a
little more as it goes into winter. The rest of the year there's not much
at all.

I have this device that looks like a saw and it rakes out the loose hairs.
My dog LOVES this. When I pick it up, he comes over wagging like a lunatic
just the same as if I had a food treat. That's pretty much all I do for
grooming.

Labs blow coat twice a year where it's really coming out in gobs the rest of
the time they are still shedding just not as bad. One thing is for sure if
you don't like hair in your house a lab is not a dog for you.

Labs shed? Dang! That's a dissappointment, because I thought I had self
rejuvenating carpet. The 5 o'clock shadow growing out of the linoleum was
starting to worry me though....

grooming - any good suggestions on brushing lab coat to remove hair before it falls off in the house. I found that petting aggresively (outside) removes alot. But I think there is a U shaped loom that removes loose hair? brush works but not that well.

Advice on grooming - I am looking to buy a forced air dryer. They seem to come in all price ranges and strengths. I have never used one before and am looking for a recommendation as to what brand I should be considering and if there are any features that you would recommend....

Canoeing is over. So back to the grooming issue!! - Still looking for recommendations on the best forced air dryer. And why is it that twenty dogs can go to the dog park. 18 of them will leave smelling fresh as roses. You do the math! That leaves two stinky dogs who love to roll in dead animals. My two....
