Archived from groups: alt>pets>mice (more info?)

i couldn't believe it this morning. went out to the dumpster and someone had
thrown out a 100 gallon, 5 foot long tank. the top was cracked but
otherwise this thing is in perfectly usable condition. so our mice are now
going to have a huge new tri level home (well, once we get it completely
cleaned and all the levels built) in addition to their current sprawl
(Critter trail 1, critter trail 2, and a 10 gallon tank)
Now we just have to figure out where to put this thing! We've already got an
idea for the eventual layout. the second level will be an island in the
center, leaving room for wheels and other larger toys on the ends. and the
third level will be split in two and cover the ends, overlaping slightly
onto the second level, leaving room there for larger things, and all the
smaller tanks/cages will be connected via tubing, for ease of seperation if
need be. Or if we decide to keep any of the males from our new little
litter that was born last night.
Jerry, our fancy mouse who came to us pregant has apparently given birth
sometime last night or this morning. We haven't, of course, seen anything
yet, but my step son says he heard tiny squeaks this morning and we haven't
seen Jerry today (though we haven't been keeping vigil...) So, no idea yet
on litter size or anything. We're going to give her a few days before we
get too nosey, though if i catch her when she's down below the nest eatting,
i may take a quick peek/count. Hopfully everyone will survive. :)

Managed to catch her out of her nest just now.. long enuf for a quick count
anyway.. 8 babies! all moving. There could be more that were hidden, but
for now we're going with the count of 8. we just more then doubled our
mouse count.... and we still have to see if Morty's actually expecting
too... I havne't seen her in a few days, but my step son says he saw her
yesterday. Last time I saw her she hadn't gotten really big yet, but we've
only had her for about 2 weeks as well, so there's still "time" yet. It's a
good thing we made the tank find.. though now we've come up with an
alternate lay out.. setting it up on it's side so it's a huge mouse tower...
adds the potential of about another 1.5 square feet.. way things are going,
we might need it!
Anyone near Anchorage need mice for Christmas?? :)
