Ah! My bad reading comprehension. I don't know how I turned
"volunteered to help" into "judge." They don't look anything alike!

Yes, and I can understand why. I hope you are able to find enough help.

No, they shouldn't. Nor should you have to bust your ass because
they dropped the ball.

I really *do* hope it works out for you. Good luck!

Heh. And, all things considered, you are being way nicer about than
you should. Ahem.

Well, wait a minute -- most mutts grow up to be cute (I know that you
know this, Shelly -- I'm piggybacking on your post). I have 2 exceedingly
cute mutts at home right now...

That's why "cuter" was in quotes. It seems to me that the
breeder--sorry, breader--thinks that, for whatever reason, one of
the dogs is more appealing than the other, and that this appeal is
something that must be seen to be fully appreciated.

"Does it look like a Mutt to you?", "Yep", "Here is your Champion

I'm keen to hear back.

FWIW, when I judge agility, I can't wear breed-specific gear
because I may be perceived to be biased. I suppose that, if
I'm wearing a Border Collie t-shirt, and Border Collies win,
my judging may be called into question.

I just did the same thing. This thing you call "reading for
comprehension" is not easy.

We had an adorable pup at the dog park yesterday. 9 weeks old (he's not
supposed to be there until he's 16 weeks old), and absolutely screamed
bloody murder when approached by other dogs. Name of Oliver, and the guy
said it was an Oogie-Pei (or some such). Pug-Sharpei mix. He said 'I just
wanted a Great Dane or a Weimeraner, and I end up with *this*'.

I'm not sure I was happy with his body language. None of the puppy happy
wrigglies. Very deliberate and stand-offish, and growled at people that
were trying to pet him. Not from fear either. Just stared and growled.
Not seen that out of a puppies of any sort. He was encouraged to keep
bringing the puppy around (in his arms, not to put him ont he ground) and to
get him around lots of dogs, because he was starting to think that it was a
serious mistake.

So a bunch of mushers who had Siberian Huskies from this one
particular line were pissed off about the kinds of Siberians
that were earning conformation titles at AKC shows, and the
ConKC convinced them to start registering the dogs with them
as "Seppala Siberian Sleddogs." This was done so that the
focus would remain entirely on working qualities. The ConKC
even coughed up money for a sledding trophy race. It was
less than a year before BYBs who'd never set a foot on the
runners started breeding the dogs because they claimed that
they wanted to "preserve this rare breed," and then they
started talking about ... showing the dogs at ConKC
conformation shows. What a stupid mess.

Wish I had known in time. I've could have taken some leave and helped you
out or else contacted some of my tracking friends with ESS that might be out
there doing breed and/or agility.

The ConKC has some sort of obedience competitions. I had read link that
someone had posted on a training email list and it was one of the more
confusing things I had read in a while.

Mindy annoys people on obedience lists as well. Maybe she is nicer in
person.

We ended up with plenty of people to help. The biggest setback was the
uncooperativeness of the springer people themselves. The entrants don't
deserve their breed people.
