Right now Oreo and Gracie live in the same room, but they're divided
by a fence (a dog enclosure actuall), so each has about half the room.

Still wanting to bond them, I'm thinking of swapping their spaces
every other day maybe. So I'd put Oreo in Gracie's area, and Gracie in
Oreo's.

I'm just wondering if this would make them mad at each other or not. I
remember when I caged up Flopsie and let Munchkin out into the room,
Flopsie would pitch a fit every time, throwing her water dish around,
etc. I don't want to start something like that here.

I'd welcome opinions.

Thanks

Joe

When we were trying to bond Pudding and Monster we tried that exact method.
For those two little buggers though, all it seemed to do was agitate them.
There was a lot of thumping and skittering around. We never did bond the two
together. Monster only has love for us not the other bunnies. Pudding and
Marshmallow are completely bonded though. They live happily together. With
those two, we had their cages side by side, then I took out a part of the
wall. Pudding was grumpy at first and charged her a bit. But after a day or
so they were laying together, now they are pretty much inseparable.

Joe, after 9-10 months with Liza and Jodie and much uncertainty, leaving
Liza's pen open and letting Jodie go in there whenever was a long process
in which she did snap at him consistently. Over the last month, Liza has
ventured out and they have ran around the apt. together and she has gone
into his pen and made herself at home smelling and chinning everything.
Now they cuddle and groom each other all hours of the day and night. I
still have hesitation about leaving her gate open while I am at work and
do close it in the mornings, but Jodie seems okay with that when I put
their breakfast down, he goes to his cage. It takes a long long time, but
patience can be rewarded in some ways and my Liza is aware that this
situation suits her better to be closer to Jodie. Your two, maybe
something can happen with time and effort. Carla Liza and Jodie.

Carla,

That is delightful news! I am sure that the three of you are much happier
these days.

Not to take away from Joe's post, but I really love being able to pet them
both at the same time! I just wiggle in between the two of them. Carla
Liza and Jodie.

I found that *when given the chance * my buns will pee and poop a lot in the
others territory... oh yay... *hense why I purchased a good carpet cleaner*

are they fixed? I have two buns, a female mini rex, and a netherland dwarf
who are bonded, and doing well... I just had them wandering around together
under supervision, and she was not spayed yet, and he had JUST been fixed,
so they seemed to bond well then. *they are both done now* but I also have a
black regular rex mix who just does not get along with the other two, no
matter what technique we have used. and he will wander over to their area
if the door is left open, and pee outside their cage and poop all around it.
just as they will poop around his cage. *the little ones don't seem to pee*

anyways...

as i've learned, you gotta let the buns make the first move... having their
cages together is sometimes a good thing, and perhaps feeding them treats
right next to each other will make the getting along together easier...
neutral territory as well... one that neither has a claim on so its free
from previous territory markings.

care

I would categorize your news as "hopeful for Joe"! Sometimes, the bunnies
just need time. I think by not forcing the issue, their natural curiosity
about that ~other~ critter can work in our favor!

Good luck, Joe.

I hope so. I didn't realize that yours were bonded now, that's great.

From what I've heard, that's an important part of it - getting used to
each others' smells I guess. That's my thinking for swapping their
living spaces. I'll probably give it a try and watch how they
react.
