with five cats around it may be difficult to keep it safe. you can get a cage
and try keeping it in the bathroom. rats don't cost much to keep, so you'd
have some time to try and find the owner.
if you can't find the owner then there are quite a few people who keep rats.
try contacting your local pet stores and see if they can put you in touch with
some rat owners.
