I just put the month old male babies back in the cage with dad to keep
them from mating with mum or the sisters...now the dad is fighting with
them....a lot. Is this normal for pecking order sorting? etc.?

Yes, this is very normal. They boys will have to go in a cage by
themselves, without dad. And eventually, each will likely have to go in
cages by themselves. Males don't tend to like each other and will fight to
the death. Sometimes you can get lucky and keep brothers together, if they
have enough room, but not always. Gotta keep an eye on em, and once
seperated, they won't live together again, unless they get neutered.

Sorry.. what can we say.. men! :)

thanks all. Some one told me that not all male mice eat or fight to the
death with their male young...and I was hoping. Now since the smaller cage
fits the dad by himself (I don't want anymore mice so away from mum) I
will keep him there and let his boys take over his old (way larger) cage.

Gah!!! thought I could cut down on the cages!

They don't all do it. But if dear ol' Dad wasn't there at all, they most
certainly will.

Would it be okay since the size differential is more harmful in regards to
fight....if when the baby boys grow to equal the fathers size..that I can
then put the father back in the same cage? He seems to get along with them
when I take them all out to play on another platform...well..after a few
small squabbles anyway.

I suppose you can try it, but it's rare for males who haven't always been
together to get along. Even boys how have been together forever can
suddenly decide they don't like living together any more...
