Post subject: what to feed them
Archived from groups: alt>pets>mice (more info?)

Until recently my mice have been fed on various hamster mixes. They used to
clear the bowl by the time I got round to feeding them again and they weren't
storing it as I checked the tank they are in. I have only had them a few months
and now I'm running out of things to feed them. Even some specialist mice feed
mixes seem to get left. One of them digs out all sunflower seeds and the other
eats any nuts that may be in the mixes. I have used mixes without these
ingredients but they seem to leave it. I have considered making my own mix and
see how they get on, but I can't find any info on what the right proportions
are.

Any advice greatly appreicated

I've always just fed my mice whatever they'll eat, mostly carbohydrates. they
like oatmeal, spaghetti, pumpkin pie, bread, vegetable oil, peanut butter,
nuts, rice, leftover pizza, seeds, cheese (though I hear blue cheese is toxic
to them), dry cat food, dry dog food, you name it. a few liked lettuce, a
handful would nibble on carrots. pregnant and nursing females usually will eat
hardboiled eggs - never tried to give egg to any others though. just go easy
on the fatty foods and salts, give them an exercise wheel to run on and plenty
of water to drink, and they should be fine.
