Greetings..........We have adopted a 12 year old African Gray, some clients
of my wife are downsizing and moving away. We've had her for 2 days and she
seem's to be adapting very well, she was eating from our hands, whistling,
chirping and today she started mimicking the sound my sneakers make when
they squeak on the tile floor........We're very excited

You have reason to be excited. My oldest, now 19 years was a cage-bound
aggressive bird after the first owners passed, and the second owners tried
to resocialize. This CAG took 6 months to tolerate me. After 7 years with
me, he is a gentle bird.

I'm happy for you.

Hi
I was wondeirng if someone who has more experience with Congo African
Grey can help me out. I have had experience with two african greys so
far. My first one was I dearly loved unfortunatly passed away due to a
disease he contracted before I had him. He was pretty wild, I had him
for a year and he was a bit wild but at the same time very very loving.
I know it might seem weird, but he was bopping his head the first day I
had him. He kpt bopping his head everytime I gave him food, let him out
of his cage, or put him back in his cage. He was quite loving but he
didnt like being handled. I tried to towel train but he hated the
towel, so much so everytime he saw it he would go back into his cage.
But although he didnt like being on humans he was very sweet. he would
always express his devition. I assumed all parrots expressed thier
devotion this way. (Because its regurtation bascially todfeed their
young).
Ok I have a second african grey and I have had it for about over a
year. H ewa spretty wild when he first came, didnt like humans etc.
However I got him trained on the towel really fast to the extent he
comes on every family memebers hand when he listens to the words step
up. This took 2 weeks and its like he was born with this command. He
pretty tame also. He loves follwing me around, flying to my shoulder,
talks non stop. He wasn't speaking when he first came we taught him
his first words. (Again I had my mom repeat a word after me like a
converstaion and he followed it).
However, although he is very tame, hes not as affectionate as my
last Grey. He will never bop his head. Though when he sees me he cant
wait to come out of his cage and fly to me.
So is it normal for a Grey to express fondness for someone with bopping
its head? I have never seen my grey bop his head for anyone as a matter
of fact. He is much younger then my old grey though. I first got him
when he was a year and half old if that makes a difference.
Thanks

Hi, the problem you are facing is that your bird must be 'tamed'.
www.birdtricks.com helps you out. I can tell from personal experience, that
they are on the right track to teach people how to handle birds, and to get
them become your real friends!

(ps: I'm not from birdtricks myself!, just a happy customer)
