How do you stop a dog from eating poop? Not only its own, but others. Any
help is kindly appreciated.

IME, that's a toughie. Might help to understand that this is how the momma
dog cleans up her puppies before they're weaned. So you're trying to quell
a natural instinct.

Clean up poop frequently, so it isn't there to eat. Try drenching poop with
hot pepper stuff, chili powder. Supervise your dog carefully, and say "No!"
when he tries.

There are some substances to feed to dogs that are supposed to make the poop
less appealing; I've never tried them.

According to Dr. Raymond Coppinger, all dogs are scavengers, and all
over the world,
village dogs have hung around village dumps and latrines consumming
garbage
and turds. He figures dogs are not direct decendants of wolves, not
created
by neolithic man raiding wolf dens and artificailly selecting for
tameness, but by
a natural selection co-incident with villages and dumps, a niche filled
by the creation
of this energy source. Breeds came about after illness wiped out all
but a new founding pair,
thus Northern breeds became larger and hairier, while Southern breeds
smaller, less hair.
There are sitll many places in the world where "village dogs" exist,
and people say they own them,
but they are more like trees on their lot, not cared for, named, fed,
or allowed inside.

Food for thought, and a much better explanation for copography
than imitating Momma cleaning up the den. You'd think with noses all
powerful, this
would never happen, but it is more common than you'd ever imagine, but
it's just so disgusting,
nobody talks about it.

As for additives, Drs.Foster & Smith sell a product called "Distaste"
which only works
on their own turds, does nothing for those of 'others'. You'll need a
"LEAVE IT" command
to avoid the temptation, however you accomplish that task.

Good Luck with that, as nothing is so disgusting than this!

Hello Courtney,

Just wanted to warn you in advance of this pervert and
newsgroup abuser who is trolling the room. His alias is
The Amazing Puppy Wizard and real name is Jerry Howe.

Since you are new here, you just got hooked by replying
to this well known netloon and troll. Once he baits you
as he does with others, you became troll bait and he will flame
you and harass you through this newsgroup and in email.

PLEASE killfile this well known Jerry Howe aka
The Puppy Wizard who is using alot of alias in
here. He is a pathological liar, pervert and
bastard net kook.

All he does is slander and defame people in
here and never listens when told to stop. He knows
nothing about dog training or canine behavior.

He just makes this up, his nose gets longer and
longer like Pinocchio due to lying for years
and he has been abusively trolling this newsgroup
and others for years.

He keeps putting " XXX " in each word, which means
that he is so perverted and he is mentally ill and
off his medication and it is better that all of
you keep him in your killfiles for the time being.

The aliases to killfile are:

Tried the pills and stuff that are out, but doesn't work. Telling them no
just makes them eat faster. Plus, they, one male and 2 females, no puppies
from them. The biggest problem that I have with it, besides being gross, is
that they will come in later and throw it up and it is soooo gross, worse
then fresh pileof poop! The dogs are all at a different home, from the same
litter, all with family. They don't seem to care about the hot stuff
either, they just go to the water quicker and throw it up quicker. Thank
you for the help

Dear AssHowe,

I understand that you are AFRAID to take my challenge, I will modify it
so it's easier for you.

Instead of competing with my dogs (as you obviously know you will
lose), I have several good friends at rescue homes and the Humane
Society that have agreed to let me borrow several untrained dogs - tiny
to huge. I've already arranged it and they agreed.

Now, all you have to do is train them NEARLY INSTANTLY (as you claim
you can) - which means less than a minute - to do a checklist of a
variety of activities.

Since you claim you can train dogs nearly instantly, this should be no
problem at all for you.

Just let me know when you can drive the simple 3 hours down here to
Boca...and again - I'll pay gas, lodging and food.

How about that???

There are plenty of methods which work with some dogs, but the
only guaranteed method is avoidance. In your yard, pick up
right away; on walks, use a leash or have a good recall or
"leave it."
