The earring

Apprantly I've gained some 'street cred' amongst the younger crowd at work.
Turns out that a few of them are into piercings and other 'body
modification' too (tattoos, scarification and inserts and other things i
don't want to know about) - but have been sensible enough to only have such
things in places that people don't usually see. They seem to have a deal of
admiration for me, some overweight, greying old woman (to them) because I've
had *cartelidge* pierced, not just flesh like 'normal' piercings. And
apprantly, getting cartiledge pierced "hurts like a fother mucker" (as it
was said to me). And takes ages to heal. And when they find out its actually
a memorial earring rather than just body modification for the sake of body
modifiation, the 'street cred' seems to go up even further. Wow, I might
even rate on the 'cool, for a fossil' scale.

Does it still hurt? Sure does. And is it taking ages to heal? Yup - could be
up to a year.

And was it worth it? Heck yeah

Yowie, I just read about Shmogg. I'm so, so sorry to hear that he has
passed away. I've not been online in weeks and have over 1500 unread
messages but this morning I decided to scroll to the bottom and see
what's up. What news to come back to!
Anyway, I wanted to let you know that you and your family is in my
thoughts and purrs.
About the earring, I had one in the cartiledge when I was 18. It hurts
for quite a while and this isn't helped by sleeping on it. Eventually
it gets better though. I got rid of mine after 2 years because I got a
dent in my head from the back of it digging into my skull while
sleeping. The skull recovered but I can still feel the hole in the
cartiledge through the skin that has grown over it. I hope you can
train yourself to sleep on the other side more. I wasn't able to
because I'm the world's most restless sleeper. Oh well, I think it's a
great idea to memorialize Shmogg.
