I have had personal experience with individual dogs of two other breeds that
were quite protective: Shar Peis and Boxers.

Just some thoughts, if you're not fixed on Dobermans.

Yup, I'm fixed on Dobes. Novel already changed and it is now off to
my beta readers. Thanks for posting though.

I had a male Chow Chow named Sebastian. That name might work. My female
Rottweiler is named Devon. That name could work for either male or female.
