YIKES!! This is my biggest fear. We are moving to the country and we know
there are children on both sides of our house and even worse, there is
nothing in back of our house. I worry constantly about the same thing . . .
either the kids teasing the dogs and having some neighbour complain to
animal control about their barking. Or even worse, someone throwing food
onto our property and causing the dogs to be ill. We won't be moving until
the summer but my friend had a great idea which we are looking into. Our
dogs are used to having free access during the day through a doggy door
flap. She said in the new house we should build a kennel type fence with a
roof and one that locks. So when we are not home they can still go in and
out of the house but instead of having access to the entire yard, they will
be protected in a kennel type fence that will still give them plenty of
running room. Her suggestion seemed to solve a few problems . . . first,
they can still have access in and out of the house. Second, I won't have to
worry about them being lured away or food being thrown at them. Third . . .
no one can steal them if I am not at home because the kennel will be locked
and have a top on it. I've also seen some of those kennels where they have a
sun tarp over the top of the roof part of the kennel and this will also mean
someone can't pitch over something that will end up in the kennel. The
kennels they sell are similar to what we are building but a lot larger. Just
an idea that might work for your dog too.

Put a shock collar on the kids and press the remote control when they're
bugging the dog ;o) kidding of course. We had a similar problem with a
dog at work. The neighbours kid would feed it things. Between two
different surgeries and what came though his stool, we've gotten $63.27 out
of him. In the fall, he was in pretty much once a week on IV fluids and to
make him vomit because he'd become sick but we'd never know what he ate. I
don't know if putting up another fence would stop them from throwing things
at him though. You could always throw the cement chunks back at them!!
