SUFFOLK -- A dog attacked and killed a 2-1/2-year old Suffolk boy today.
Suffolk Police was called at 8:45 a.m. to a family home at the 6000
block of Whaleville Boulevard just outside of downtown Suffolk about a
child being attacked by a pitbull mix.
Paramedics found the young boy severely injured in a room downstairs of
the home. He was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he
passed away, said Lt. Debbie George with the Suffolk Police Department.
Police began looking for the pitbull mix, which is about 3 to 5 years
old, in the nearby woods, but found the dog later in the house. Police
also found another pitbull mix and some puppies at the family's home.
There was also a younger child in the house.
Police said the dog was usually kept outside, but brought into the house
sometime Sunday night. Police are still investigating the cause of the
attack and are not releasing any names.
This was the first fatal animal attack in recent years in Suffolk,
George said.
