[img]Hi, I am a newbie here and also a newbie to owning a dog!
I have been thinking about maybe getting a dog for quite a while now. I am not entirely sure what breed should I go for? I have done my own dog breeds research. I have narrowed it down to getting a "Whippet", because I've heard this makes a good family dog, not too big, gentle and generally nicely behaved.
What struck me about the "Whippet" is that, there's little grooming and hair shedding and little 'doggy' odour is expelled from these shorthaired greyhound dogs! Greyhounds don't seem to pant too much either and are very good on a lead. This would suit me, because I already have 2 young children to run round after ages 1 and 3.
I plan to take the dog with me to and fro from the nursery (4 trips), and I will entend 2 trips for extra dog walkies. Is this suffient enough? I also plan to keep the dog's bed under my stairs with a barrier across to my prevent the children getting in and bothering the poor dog!
What do you think? Is a "Whippet" a good idea? Or can you suggest any other very shorthaired breeds?[/img]
