WOW, I THOUGHT I knew what a Binky was ... BUT, I'd been duped by the small
binkies Beeb and Cissy do. Since we've had the Munkster we now know the true
meaning of "Binky". This little bun is such a character ... jumps, climbs,
nips, races at 200 mph ... you name it. I love the 360 degree turns two feet
in the air. What a little personality. Loves to play tug of war with the
slinky and generally get into as much trouble as possible before being
stopped by Mom or Dad. He's more fun to watch than TV :-)
We haven't tried another bonding session yet, Munk did get a bite from Beeb
on a little front paw that ended us up in the vets office. We're cleaning
the wound daily and applying antibiotic ointment along with oral baytril. It
seems like the healing is a little slower than I would like, but it's
progressing. What has been your experience with the length of time it
normally takes for an open wound to heal? It hasn't produced any pus the
past couple of days, but the wound still seems a little distended. We were
told to remove the scab so it can heal from the inside out ... does this
sound right? Poor Baby, I was devastated that we allowed him/her to get a
boo boo.

dori, it sounds like munkster is truly happy in his new home. good for you!
glad you're getting to see the "real" binkies up close and personal. i
loved when morgan would do that. unfortunately, she is getting older and is
moving much slower than normal......the circle of life.
can't give any tips on the wound info but i'm sure someone else here will be
able to offer some help.

The wound must have been pretty deep if the doc said to let it heal
from the inside out. Shame on Beeb! It will be healed soon, I'm
sure.
I love reading about Munk. I bet a lop looks cute when it binkies.

Dori, are you using a flush, such as Chlorhexaderm or Betadine? A
good flush everyday with one of these antiseptics might help.

Anita, I've been flushing with Tresaderm liquid, do you think Betadine might

Anita, Munk's binkies are adorable ... little ears flapping everywhere in
the breeze :-)
Beeb got in a pretty good chomp on the poor little foot quicker than
lightening, and yes, it was fairly deep. Certainly not just a scratch. It
seems to be looking better every day but it's been two weeks tomorrow since
it happened and I've been cleaning and medicating it every day since then.
I'll give it a few more days and, if it still hasn't healed to my
satisfaction, we'll let the Vet take another look at it.
Oh, and another note. The Vet thought Munk was a girl, but I'm sure we felt
little testicles this morning (unless I'm dreaming) I still think Munk is a
boy. I guess time will tell for sure. He's just over 3 months old and he
sprayed the floor this morning. Don't tell Munk but I don't think it will be
many more weeks before he's eligible for a visit to the cluster snatchers.

I think baby Buns are just like baby hoomins ... they're so sweet and
comical when they're little but you sometimes can't wait for them to grow
past the destructive stages. Moving slower does have it's advantages ;-)

The only thing I've ever used Tresaderm on has been ears. It is used
for external ear infections. I don't know how good it would be for
injuries, but I would trust your vet's advice. I mentioned Betadine
and Chlorhexaderm (diluted four times in water) because they were what
I used to flush Toofer and Jessie's wounds. They worked well. If the
Tresaderm is working, I would trust the doctor and stay with it.

Dori, don't feel guilty about the nip. Rabbits can be lightning fast.
It is a hazard of bonding. You're taking good care of Munk and he
will be okay.
Dennis bought me a Bissel ProHeat carpet cleaner for Christmas -- I
asked for it. It is as easy as vacuuming. Of course, I hate
vacuuming.
I think any of the upright cleaners are pretty good. Wal*Mart has the
best prices I've seen for them. I don't like giving Wal*Mart all the
money, but if they have the best prices, what's a consumer to do?

That's what Jim says ... "we might have to get a doe for Munk"
You were so lucky that Jump and Merlin bonded so quickly. I didn't have any
trouble bonding Beeb and Cissy either, but I guess trying to introduce a 3rd
bunny causes jealousy. It's a real learning experience.

Anita ... The Vet didn't tell me to flush the wound with anything. He is a
good Vet but I don't think he's all that Rabbit Savy. He gave me Bactoderm
cream for the wound and I had to ask for Baytril. He originally wanted to
give it IM and I expressed a concern for it causing abcesses so he agreed to
giving it orally but was going to give it straight (terribly bitter) I asked
if it was possible to get anything flavored and he finally came up with
cutting it with Pina Colada. I think he is "learning" from my bunnies. The
past couple days I have been using triple antibiotic salve and it seems to
be doing a better job. What's a bunny Mom to do.
I imagine WalMart will be the best bet for a Carpet cleaner around here too,
or maybe Target. I will look at both and will definitely check out the
Bissel ProHeat. I could kick myself, I had a Rainbow Vacuum cleaner that
also had a wonderful steam cleaner attachment. I traded it in on a Kirby
(because I wanted an upright) whose foam carpet cleaning system does a lousy
job and the vacuum is so clumsy and heavy that I rarely use it. I'm
presently using a cheap dirt devil that uses no bags, does a good job and is
lightweight, but it has no cleaning system. I guess experience is the best
teacher ;-) I wish I still had the Rainbow.
