It's possible that he is feeling something like an earthquake that is too small
to wake you up, but startles him. Or a noise that is at a decibel rating that
you don't hear easily...or a cat racing by at high speed.
The thumping can mean a few things. Fear, anger, victory (watch them make a
victory thump when they avoid you as you try to catch them), or just boredom.
Pops used to do it, and he still will once in a while when he sees an unknown
person enter the room. Mule does it at whatever it is he thinks he sees in the
night. It hasnt' happened in months now, but for a while, we had to leave a
night light on. Bazy May (another bunny from this group) thumps when she sees a
mouse. It just all depends and usually, unless you see what set him off, you
won't know what caused it.
