I used to have a dog but, she had a terrible stroke and was put to
sleep. Although, I have studied dogs in grade school, I don't know too
much about them. I would like to get a dog as soon as possible but, I
don't know what breed to get. If anone knows what kind of dog would be
best in a regular sized house and dosn't shed/barly sheds, please tell
me! Thanks!

Sorry about the loss of your dog.
The kind of dog you look for depends upon your life style--how active are
you? (Are you looking for a dog to jog with or take long walks with, etc.?)
Do you have time for obedience training classes? Do you work? (how would you
deal with housetraining a puppy?)
Do you have a fenced in yard?
Do you have a family? small children?
Do you like big dogs? small dogs?
Have you been to any all breed dog shows? They're a great place to see lots
of different kinds of dogs and talk to owners/handlers who know alot about
them.
You must have some ideas about what kind of dog appeals to you.
If you don't want a pure bred dog, by all means go to your local shelter and
give a dog a second chance by adopting.

You can also go to your local bookstore or library and get some books on
what dogs are right for what people. There are quite a few good ones out
there. Go to the Pet section of the store and browse. Good luck!

I believe a new dog, which can never be a replacement, of course, is one of the greatest
tributes we can pay to a dog that we've lost.

Consider visiting your local animal shelter, it's a good place to learn about dogs (and
humans). You'll find about 25% of the dogs are purebreds, but very few will be small. You
might discover one or many mongrels that meet most of your needs.

Best wishes.
