It depends on several things. What type of pigeon do you have?
How old it is. How hard it was trained or was it even flown at all?
>2. How can i tell if the pigeon is male or female???? thanks
The male will fill his crop with air and dance around dragging his
tail. The hen will crow but not as deep or as long as the male.
The male will look to be standing tall and alert. You might find
the male in a corner or a nest calling for his mate with a real
bassy Woo, Woo, Woo.
I hope this helps a little. It is a how deep is the river question,

IME for homers, I'd say from 4 weeks to 2 months, top.

Females are generally less aggressive more curvy on their head
and neck.

Not pulling your leg..........
Cock birds sound like "Wa wa look at the coo" (6, shall we say,
syllables?)
Hens sound like "Look at the coo" (Said fast, sounds like 4 syllables)

There is NO definitive way to tell the sexes, and there are always
exceptions to the rules.
I have had hens that cooed like cocks, and cocks that act henny.
But on average, this works for most adult pigeons, if you are just
unsure.
But like most people that raise pigeons, you just have to be around and
observe them long enough, and you will be able to tell the difference
just by looking at them.
This obviously will not work for squeekers, (Peep!) or immature birds
whos voice has just changed. (About 5 weeks old.) After that, this
works.

Homers, unlike rollers, or over-the-house performing breeds, are one of
the best at returning home long distances, so take a little longer to
re-home than most, and are said to possess the most magnetite in their
brains of all the pigeons.
But I don't know,...it may depend on how much he liked his old home?
I've seen some re-home in less than a week, but others that took
several months. (Had to make several trips to the birds original home
to get it back!)
On average, I'd give it a month, with many of those days in a wire cage
on the loft roof so he can acclimate himself. A mate and a nestbox
would also help in making it want to stay. And of course, not being
afraid of you, and good food and water.
Two cents, a day late and a dollar short,
E-Man
