Hi, just moved to a farm and as a young child (in central Europe) I saw
lot's of people having pigeons. I live in Kingston area of Ontario, Canada
and would like to start raising them. I have lot's of barn space and all I
need is a basic starting information, because my knowledge is zero when it
comes to these lovely birds. I also would like to know where to get the
first starting birds in this area.
All advise and information will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Istvan

Don't know much as I'm very new to the hobby myself. Two things though
if you want to really learn get "The Pigeon" by Wendell Levi, TonyF
recommended it to me and he was spot on. It can be hard to get a hold
of, I got mine for $65 US from half.com. The other thing is that if
you are just wanting to have pigeons flying around the house, its my
understanding that they will pretty much raise themselves, just put
food out for them and a water source, they may not be the healthiest
with little bird parasites and what not, but they should stick around,
before you know it you'll likely have more pigeons than you want. Again
if I'm wrong someone quickly correct me as like I said I'm a real
newbie.

Hello , you might want to get a start of white homing pigeons. I
had a flying flock of a couple hundred birds years ago. They made quite
a impressing sight to watch them get up and course around the neighbor-
hood. They are seen from a further distance than a dark bird. Over in
England I think that there are a lot of farmers and just everyday folks
who have white and white splashes free flying. I suspect that they are
eating the squabs. You can put nest in their loft and close them up at
night and release them early in the morning. This all is if you just want a
nice flock of pigeons hanging around. If you want to fly or show it will
be some difference in handling them
