deafness

Does anyone have experience with dog deafness? My 10 yr old lab has gone
from fully functional (no apparent problem at home or hunting) to total
deafness in approximately 2 months. Four weeks ago we hunted and she seemed
fine with voice commands at a distance of approximately 50 - 70 yds. Today,
she is unable to hear a hand clap directly behind her head. The Vet seems
to think that it's a function of age. To me, a 2 month slide to total
deafness seems unusual. Does anyone have a similar experience? Brett

Hi Brett,
My last German Shepherd went deaf when she got older.
Although for a time she did have strange turns (ie she would sometimes walk
like she was drunk)
The bones in the inner ear harden up thus making them deaf.
