High all.
Been doing the "Herps" thing with some some leopard geckos for about the
last 8 months. So far so good. I am interested in obtaining a corn snake.
The local pet shop has a few. Most are about 4 to 5 inches long, and about
as big around as a pencil. They seem healthy. The pet shop shop told me they
are feeding and about 7 weeks old. Does this sound normal? I somehow thought
they would be bigger at this age. Any info or advise would be appreciated.
Thanks.

All snakes vary, i am no expert on corns, personally i hate them like the
plague, but have one here.

I would as to see if feed, no shop should say no, a feeding snake is the
most important thing. Thinking about it, the siz sounds a lil small, maybe
not, i deal with 18 foot pythons and few inch long Hognose snakes.....

The one i have rarley comes out, but does like hell for food!

Corns are good for beginners, nice to know your asking questions, often
people dont.

BTW i keep lep gex too, have a totally blind female, needs to be hand fed
but nice.

Hey,

I have been keeping snakes for years, and corns are probably my
favorite. Can't see how any herp lover could "hate" them. Corns are so
easy to keep; great feeders, easily adaptable to temperature changes,
very docile; etc.

Julian gives sound advice on asking the pet shop to let you watch your
selection feed. It's very rarely, except prior to shedding; that a
healthy corn will refuse food. As far as the size ot those you
mentioned, I wouldn't be too concerned. From my experiences, the pet
shops feed them very conservatively, using the logic "The more we have
to feed them, the less the profit margin". I have never "power fed" my
corns, but their growth can easily be regulated during the first year or
two of their lives.

Good luck!

I hate bright colourful snakes, albinos, morphs etc, cant stand em full
stop.......i like natural cammoflaged colours.....my personal taste i guess,
only reason i have one here is cos my chick who i bought it for is scared to
feed it, its the nastiest little bstard i have ever seen to be honest, would
put off any newbie.

Yes shop owners feed them all in mass not too often, a lot of snakes will
eat while in shed phase and others wont, luck of the draw.
