You are correct! Thanks for the compliment, I will relay it to her 8-)

Please include a treat with my compliment then! ;) And one for the
large, mareled looking dog too. While Gretchen has a face to die for, I'm
a bit drawn to 'the big guy'. Would like to hear more about him too??? He
is gorgeous. That settles it, someday I just have to own a Great Dane.
I've coveted one for years and years

From reading your other posts, it sounds like you live in a wonderfully
peaceful little town. I envy you, winter is my favorite season. Not much
winter in the south, unfortunately. :( I have a dear friend in Idaho who
sends me wonderful photo's of new-fallen snow weighing down the limbs on
huge evergreen trees. So peaceful and pristine.

You're welcome, it certainly is hard to resist photos of such beautiful
dogs. I truly have always wanted to own a Great Dane. My own dogs have
always been mutts, rescues, and I'm fine with that. But when ever I see a
Great Dane, I feel a yearning. I see lots of other dogs I think are
beautiful, cute, funny, wonderful, but it's only the Great Dane that brings
out that yearning to have one in me.
best,

The other dog in the pictures (Deisel) is a brindle dane. He is the sire of
Gretchens upcomming litter. The pictures are from their 1st meeting.

Peaceful, very. Pristine, well it's not a city, but it's a long way from
pristine.
We're an agricultural community. Between 2 and 3 ft. of snow on the ground
right now and very few days above 0 degrees. Makes for some rather chilly
walks.

Growing up we always had a few dogs in the house. Always mixed breeds.
My 1st dane was a shelter dog, a dane german shepard mix. I fell in love
with
danes at that point. I joined a dane rescue shortly after. Gretchen is my
5th
great dane since. She is my 1st AKC papered, purchased dog.
For the most part, the puppies will be going to family members, so they
should
be able to see each other regularly. (ultrasound is on 2/25/08)
Danes are the finest breed I have yet to encounter. They combine the
strength
and intimidation of a rottweiler, the grace of a greyhound, the nobility of
a lion
with the temprement of a labrador.(just my opinion 8-)

That settles it, sounds like exactly what I'm looking for, especially the
temperament of a lab. :)
Your description is perfect. Please let us know what the ultrasound shows.
I am now anxious to hear all about these new pups, and go so far as to
demand photo's of them! :-)
The one thing that has been holding me back all these years is the shorter
life-span of Dane's. :( I get so attached to my dogs, and want them around
as long as possible.

A good, well-bred Dane most certainly does not have the temperament of a
Lab. I wouldn't have one if they did.

I hope you don't go so far as to get one of these horridly bred, poorly
thought out breedings. If you want a Dane, get a rescue if you want shoddy
breeding. (You might get lucky and get something really carefully bred!)
Or if you want a puppy, don't encourage poor breedings by supporting them.
We can find you a good breeder! Just ask.
But encouraging and showing interest in this abysmally bred, poorly thought
out breeding, just does not do a breed you claim to LOVE any justice. >> Stay informed about: Too cold for dogs |

Thank you, Diddy. There are more Danes in rescue than are good homes for
them, and they are really not the easiest of dogs to find good homes for.
Their dietary requirements, especially in puppyhood, are a bit different
from norm, they are prone to orthopedic issues, there are serious cardiac
issues that cause them to die so, so young, just due to the size, the cost
of *everything* is higher, etc.

Your "Yay, rah... PUPPPIES!!!" attitude and encouraging interest in the
ultrasound on this abysmally bred litter, and supporting this person in
their breeding, in spite of nothing positive offered,or that they did
anything responsibly, including all indications of inappropriate
temperament being present, is what really bothered me. >> Stay informed about: Too cold for dogs |

Our next-door neighbors took in a female GD. Her owner was divorcing
and as a firefighter she was away from home for 24 hour stretches. She
understood the risk of free-feeding this bloat-prone breed and came to
the conclusion that Macey should go to someone who could take proper
care of her.
I like(d) Macey. She'd stand up against the fence and WOOF you upside
the head if you were mowing the fence line and neglected to pay her
proper tribute (proper tribute consisting of neck scratches and/or
throws of a ball). I gave her one of Zane's popped basketballs and she
and Zane would run the fence together, deflated roundballs clenched in
their teeth.
But I haven't seen her in... What? A week? Two weeks? Her ball is
just laying in the middle of the yard. I still see the little one,
Beau, running the fence with my Cooper. But no Macey. I'm afraid to ask. >> Stay informed about: Too cold for dogs |

Diddy & Suja,
Were I to get a Great Dane, I would go the rescue route. Never having owned
a Dane, I would want one from someone who had fostered the dog themselves
and could advise me on the temperment of the dog I am taking on. Someone
who was able to fit a particular dog to my own life circumstances. I feel
certain most breed specific rescues, want to place a dog with the right
person for that dog. And also, good breed specific rescues, would offer
mentoring after placement were I to have any problems, issues or questions.
Those are all things I would be interested in finding out ahead of time.
Right now, I'm still too busy helping my daughter with the grandsons and
all the dogs we already have between us. I'm thinking ahead a year or two,
to when the twins begin school full time and I have much more flexibility
with my own schedule.
As an aside, I don't know if you followed Kali's puppies placement or not,
but three of the pups were placed with people acquainted with each other.
Two with adult brother/sister families, and one to a friend of the *sister*.
My daughter advised them as to which puppy she thought would fit in their
own individual life situation best, and they all contacted her afterwards to
compliment her on her astute placement skills. Each of them thought she had
recommended the perfect dog for themselves. Since they all know and
associate with each other, and get the puppies together on occasion, they
themselves could appreciate that although they loved all three dogs, they
felt that the one recommended to them, was the perfect dog for their
situation. My daughter was quite proud to hear that feedback.

The dog is already pregnant. Would you prefer I say 'get that dog an

I hope you ask. It could be something innocent, a trip with a friend or
a visit to a fire station. (There's someone there 24 hours a day,
right?) If she's sick, that might be recoverable too, something where
she hurt a leg, can't get out, but will be fine. If something horrible
has happened, well, there's evil in the world. But I usually find
knowing better than not knowing.
