Post subject: Too cold for dogs

It would have been nice if the cold weather had blown in a huge
dump of snow, but we got only a couple of inches.
The official temperature is -32C/-26F, but the windchill makes
it -50C. This is the coldest weather I've ever seen and it's
supposed to last 4 more days before getting up to a balmy -10C.
The dogs are out-and-then-in-real-fast today. I'm looking after
a friend's Chihuahua for a few days and she didn't bring its
jacket! Granted, it was a beautiful and sunny 0degC when she
dropped him off. He pooped inside and I forgave him.

Do right by the dogs and get a business opportunity! Pick
up a few coats, rent 'em out.
By way of context, here's how big, tough sleddogs - ones
with a goal of running the Yukon Quest, where -40 is common

It was FREAKING cold here over the weekend - but its passed on and is +10 F
this AM. Hopefully its going your way.
Pirate and Tok don't seem to care much but I don't let them stay out for

My sympathies! Where is it that you live? After reading your post, I feel
guilty for our own weather here. We are in a terrible drought here though.
For those on city water, restrictions are at the highest level ever. But
your arctic weather is surely bone-chilling. I hope none of your charges
suffer from arthritis? My own bones ached just reading what you'd written.

Poor little fella! If you can bring yourself to go out, get one of those
battery operated heated socks, cut appropriate holes, and stick him in it.
Hopefully, that'll be sufficient to keep him from freezing when he has to go
do his bizness.
Hope your crew stays healthy and no one get the runs during the cold spell.

The time I was in Calgary and it was -40 was the time I decided I didn't
need to visit Calagary in the winter. I made an exception when my
father-in-law died, but my resolution went back into effect after that.

You shouldn't. Extreme cold weather can go away quickly,
droughts tend to linger.

I simply meant temperature-wise. And yes, the drought has plagued over a
year now. Landscaping businesses and nurseries have really been having a
rough time of it. So many either going out of business or barely hanging
on.
I was surprised to read your post, because I had thought you lived on the
western coast of Canada, and just assumed the weather would be similar to
that of say the Seattle area.

Our weather is apparently a result of your weather meeting some
southern weather ("Blame America"). The systems are meeting up
right over my house right now and have decided to stay for much
of the week.

My method has always been to go out with the dogs no matter
what. The only concession I've made today is to send them out
ahead of me while I put on the toque and ski gloves.
