I already have 2 cats, a female, approx. age 3 yrs., a male, approx age 1.5
yrs, they have both been neutered and get along well (for cats, I guess). My
question is, would another cat upset the mix? should it be a female or male
(altered of course). I would love to add a black cat to my family of brown
shorthairs.

I brought home a 7 week old male kitten to two indoor female siamese cats,
roughly 6 and 16. Both despise him, but then again, both hated each other at
the beginning too. Our black male cat about 6 as well, who WAS mainly an
outdoor cat, established dominance at first, but now spends most of his time
inside almost acting like a mother cat to my kitten. I thought the two
females would like him, and the male would hate him, but it turned out quite
the opposite. I know siamese tend to be real jealous and picky when it comes
to adding new cats, not sure about others.

I have had up to nine cats and eventually they either all get along or find
their space within the group. There is always the loner of the group who
doesnt like anyone! lol I have a 15 y/o cat that just has tolerated so many
kittens in her life and she is fine and has always been my best girl cat. I
say the more cats the merrier!! lol
