Yup. It's possible. If the cat is in good health, you may be
unconscoiusly rewarding it by creating a fuss over the act. I would
hiss loudly when you discover the pee, when that happens, if the cats
can hear you, and withdraw affection and attention for a short time,
maybe an hour or so. Then when the bed is dry and stays that way for a
little while, give the cats more attention and play with them.
Peeing on your possesions is often a comment or a sign of displeasure.
They may be comminicating in the only way they can. Something you do
is making them upset. I'm not accusing you of anything, you
understand, I don't know enough about the situation, but if there's
anything you can think of... maybe the cats are bored? Do they get
left alone for an extended period of time, (in their view!)? An
extreme solution might be to add a kitten to the mix. That'll occupy
them! (:-)) Be surethat they will accept it and not harm it before
leaving them alone. All this may be irrelevent IF that is not the
problem.
There is a hormoane commercially available called "Feli-<something>"
and it work wonders at getting cats to stop peeing on things. It's a
friendly hormoane and shouldn't be used outdoors. It's also expensive,
but it works well and is much cheaper than a new matress. You already
know of course that while you're solving the problem a plastic sheet
will protect things like the mattress that can be hard to wash.
