OK - here is my original message that never made it to the screen... I
wonder if the fact that I was cross-posting to several dog-related NGs could
have been behind its lack of appearance...?
========================================================
Hello,
I was wondering if any animal behavior-ists have ever figured out why dogs
will spend so much time selecting a spot in the grass: sniffing out a
location, arching the back, making sure the target spot is correctly aimed
at, starting to present, changing their mind, withdrawing the presentation,
sniffing out another spot, ... Rinse, lather, repeat.
They don't seem to mind as much when they end up relieving themselves inside
the house and any convenient spot on the floor will do; so why does it
matter so much to them where they drop the doo outside the house?
And a corollary: they seem to pee anywhere without concern. Sometimes
they'll pee in wet grass then proceed to avoid the same wet grass for Number
Two. Without ANY sense of irony.
FWIW, my two dogs are both females; one is a chihuahua, the other is a mutt
with lots of Pit Bull.
