Last night I found the little blighter trying to bite his way out of
the roof of the cage.

He'd sneakily crept onto the condensation tray level of the fishtank
and was attacking the roof of the cage.

I have noticed him using his leg - it's back in a normal position and
he's scampering about at all speeds. I released him from the cage for
a bit - he beelined straight up my t-shirt and sat on my shoulder.
Eventually my friend gently pulled him from my shoulder and put him in
his cage.

This would have been a perfect solution had it not involved leaving a
cardboard tube against the side of the tank. He had escaped, and
limped under the air conditioning unit in my room. Fortunately it was
quite easy to lift and he was back in his cage!

Got him out again today and his leg is good enough for him to stand on
his back feet. His second excursion was into the (empty) bathtub. He
ventured about, climbed my arm and as I tried to prise him off (before
he reached the highest point!) I got a loud squeek (his first) and a
firm nip.

I have removed the nesting box today and replaced it with a large dead
twig which I've seen him climb aptly and a cardboard tube. His foot is
definately working now (even his toes seem to be gripping) and he's
even standing on two legs.

Now if only I could find that waist coat, deer hunting hat and pipe...

lol - it'd be cruel to lock him up much longer, he's desperate to get
out of the cage.

I'm off for four days, so I've got the agonising decision of letting
him out whilst he's still limping (and virtually unable to climb) or
letting his leg mend properly. He ought to have enough water and food
for three nights (large water bottle and food bowl) so I'm guessing
he'll be best off waiting.

I decided to hang carboard tubes against the roof of the cage so when
he climbed up the sticks he'd have something to explore. I've stuck
all the sunflower seeds up in the roof-rolls so he has to work for 'em.
