Hello everyone,
My 2 yr. old beagle broke his nail on his hind leg. I trimmed what I
could without clipping the quick but on the initial break there was
some bleeding (I only saw the blood on his paws between his claws).
The bleeding subsided quickly as there wasn't much blood.

Should I bandage this and take him to the vet?

Or will the new nail grow in and he'll pretty much heal himself in
about a week?

I've heard contradicting advice.

Thanks in advance for replying,

Depends on how badly it's broken, but if you didn't see much blood and
you trimmed it properly, it's probably OK. Our GSD broke off a nail on
one of her front paws a couple of years ago, and it bled so profusely
that it had to be kept bandaged for several days. We took her to the vet
ASAP when we saw how much blood there was, as we weren't sure if her paw
had been injured as well. Even when he thought he'd stopped the
bleeding, it started up again and soaked through the bandage while we
were paying the bill in his waiting room. It took several months for the
nail to grow back completely, and even then it grew back sticking out at
a funny angle.
