As I posted in an eariler thread, I'm going to get a cat. I'm a college
student living alone and I think a cat would be a nice pal.

I want one with blue eyes, I was wondering what breeds have blue eyes?
I liked the Persians, but I hear they are heavy upkeep. I was thinking
of a dog but they need a lot more attention, and I sometimes spend a
night or two out.

Oop, I'd like to add, I think an albino cat would be very cool;
however, I "hear" they often have hearing problems.

:) Me again, actually I think the Russian Blue looks cool too! I like
their green eyes!

Two would be better.

Ozy is a blue-eyed red tabby colorpoint - he was born in a barn, into
a barn cat clowder. The lower left picture in
<http://gearbox.maem.umr.edu/tdavis/cats/03.jan/index.html> is of Ozy
- the lower right picture is of his sister.

Blue eyes are often asociated with white fur rather than with
particular breeds, though many Siamese have blue eyes - most pure
white cats with blue eyes are also deaf. If you get a blue-eyed cat,
make sure it can hear.

If you are looking for something with low maintenance requirements -
not requiring daily grooming, for example - you *do not* want a
persian.

Eye color is one of the last things to consider when selecting a cat -
personality is the big one, and in your case (where the cat will not
be getting completely regular grooming), coat length and texture are
very important: long or fine hair requires daily grooming; coarse,
short, hair can go for days between combing/brushing sessions.

Twice, I have given cats to college students living alone, and both
times I chose friendly adult short haired neutered males of completley
unknown breeding. One was black and white; the other was pure black
with extra toes. (Both were having socialization problems in my large
clowder, but both thrived as the alpha cat in older male / younger
female twosome situations.)
