Actually, she does not need any dog.
She's gonna be very busy soon with the baby :-)
The breed -mmm, probably Borzoi...
Seriously,no way you get some valuable answer to such a brief question.

What is the lady look like? Active ? 40? 70? what household?
Daughter like dogs, too?
What dogs she/they had in the past?
Why does't she come up with some suggestions? At least, size -- great or lap-top?

I keep thinking of friend of mine. She is(was) single mother.Fragile.City dweller.
After her huge newfoundland died, he sweared to get smaller dog but ended up
to adopt Russian Black Terrier. And is very happy having him.
Looks like she is destined to have huge black dogs :-).

Chicha.

I too think that she better put off buying a puppy. Taking care of a
baby is hard work, and having a puppy is just like having a baby. So
it will be double work. It's better for the puppy, because when the
baby comes, who will be bothered to bring it out for daily walks,
obedience training and such?
