I had a betta fish and it
died. I want to get another
but know I must clean the bowl
and gravel before putting a
new one in it. What is the
best way to clean these so
they are free of anything that
might have killed the previous
fish?

Thanks in advance

Nicki

I just wipe it out with a paper towel and water.
if a disease killed the fish then the fish was already sick with the
disease, it was more likely bad water quality (ammonia/nitrite/temp) or
incorrect feeding that killed it.
Also not many diseases handle the bowl merely being dried out or being left
setup without a host for 2 weeks
at least then the bowl may have been matured a bit
:)
sorry to sound harsh but yea relax

Cleaning goldfish bowl... - I have a single goldfish that I keep in a approimate 1 gallon bowl. (I know it is to small, but that is the best I can do for right now?) I change the water every 3 or 4 days. Today after I emptied the bowl there was like a scum around where the water..

Water Changes/Gravel cleaning - I'm waiting for my new tank to cycle and so far it has zero ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. Should I postpone doing a water change until one of those goes above zero? Will doing a 20%+ partial water change/gravel cleaning slow down the cycling process....
