Hi ! I live in PA and have a female blue front amazon whom I adore and have
had for 9 1/2 years almost (since she was four months old). Anyway, I know
how hard it must be to give your bird up. I wish I lived in Utah and could
take you up on your offer (if I thought my bird and yours would get along
and if it got along with me and my husband), but even if I did live in Utah
I currently live in a townhouse and I'm only allowed to have one large bird
as a pet.
Good luck! Is there a local bird group that you might be able to contact
that might be able to find a home for him/her?
I don't know what I'd do if I had to give up Modi for any reason...my
husband and I are not having children so that won't be an issue for us and
luckily my part of running our own computer consulting business is mostly
done from home. Still, when we first got her I work 40 hours a week and she
was OK and so did my husband (sometimes more for both of us). I think the
difference was that when we were home we kept her in whatever room we were
working or relaxing in and spent time with her each morning and evening
before we put her to bed. Blue Fronts on the whole (at least the ones I
know owned by other people around here) seem to be pretty self-suffecient in
entertaining themselves as long as they have interesting toys and something
to listen to as long as the time you do have at home (or at least an hour or
so a day) is spent paying attention to them (both playing and scritching).
Maybe your Amazon is different, each one is, but maybe you just need to find
some new things for it to do when you and your wife are out of the house and
also find some quality time for it each day.
I wish I could help you out :)
Hugs,
Owlfriend/Simone
