I've always avoided getting Clown Loaches, as I've only got a 55 gallon for
my Tropical tank. I'll be upgrading to a 90 gallon soon, so I thought I
would add some Clowns to the group.
Current inhabitants are:
4 Tiger Barbs
4 Rosy Barbs
2 SAES
3 Yoyo Loaches
Unknown Otos (Probably 5)
7 Cardinal Tetras
I'll probably add 4 more Barbs (2 Tigers and 2 Rosy) to get them back to six
each. Although they don't seem terribly distressed about their reduced
numbers (originally 6 each). I may also move some of the SAEs (3) from my
small office tank to the larger tank, although they seem quite content where
they are.
Can a 90 gallon with these inhabitants support 6 Clown Loaches? Seems it
might be overcrowded to me. >> Stay informed about: How big do Clowns really get? |

They will not get more than 6"...perhaps less even. You have plenty of
room. >> Stay informed about: How big do Clowns really get? |

I've read they only reach 6 to 8" in an aquarium. Mine reached about 6" in
a 55g tank.

I have 3 Clowns in a 29 gallon tank and 6 in a 75 gallon. Also 6
Siamese Algae Eaters in the 29 and 9 in the 75. These two species are
chums in my tanks. The SAEs average 6 inches and the Clowns 5 inches.

Clown loaches can reach as much as twelve inches in the wild, but I've
never seen one much larger than six inches myself.
They appear to be relatively slow growing fish, but they can put a lot of
food away very fast. I suspect their maximum adult size varies a lot
depending on how much they get to eat when they are relatively young. >> Stay informed about: How big do Clowns really get? |

Thanks, the new tanks arrived today. So as soon as I build a stand and move
the boys, I'll look at adding some Clowns. >> Stay informed about: How big do Clowns really get? |

yea clowns might get big but you'd sell them before they got too a foot as
the stripes start to fade and they are worth their most before they go.

=======================
They didn't lose their color? I recently read somewhere that they get much
paler and less attractive as they age.
