My dog gets anyone who asks a beer from the fridge, and puts than
recycles the can. Sounded impossible to teach him but it was just a
several easier commands all put together. You can see him on video at
DogTricks.biz . Just takes time to teach the smaller tricks, many of
which are cute such as turning the light on or off. Better than Clap
On/OFF!
Jack is a border collie and so easier to train than some other brreds.
If your dog doesn't learn the basic commands without huge effort than
you will have to get your own beer.
Have a cold one on him :-)

My dog used to get my husband beer from the refrigerator.... until he
decided one night, about 2am, to dump a cold one in the bed. Then my
husband said it was something i needed to "untrain"
He was an Elkhound. Not one of those breeds noted for being highly
trainable.

You are right, it's easy to train, and I trained him to do it in an
afternoon.
