Post subject: beagle behavior question
Archived from groups: rec>pets>dogs>rescue (more info?)

We adopted a beagle from a shelter a few weeks ago.
They had another beagle there, that seemed sweet, but indifferant to us.
It turns out she had heartworms. She is now almost finished with treatment. She
is an older dog and they cant find a home for her. We visited with her again
now that she is feeling better. She is still indifferant to us and the first
animal I've ever seen that didnt adore my husband.

Could her indifferance be due to still being under heart worm treatment?

I will echo what Diddy's said. Sometimes it takes dogs a while to warm
up to people and trust them. When it finally happens, it's the most
amazing, rewarding experience! We have a girl who is generally
indifferent to people, but she does have people whom she loves, and the
love she projects towards us is awesome! Unlocking a little heart like
that is very rewarding.
