My dog had a large/deep laceration to his left hind leg, took him to the
vet, they sewed him up 4 stitches on the inside and 8 on the outside. About
10 days after the stitching, (2 days before the outside stitches were to
come out) he developed a "fluid sac" . I was told by the vet not to worry,
as it wasn't warm or tender to touch. well after a while it went down,
not all the way, then came back and was the size of a golf ball. the vet
drained it no infection noted, and said it should be fine. Now it is
slightly large again, and he is not using his back left leg much at all.
does anyone have any suggestions? thanks in adavance. Jerry

Our first lab had a situation that sounds like this when she was spayed. Our
vet suggested it was a reaction to the interior stitches. We drained it 3
times (I think it was 3, might have only been 2 - it's been awhile). There
were no further issues. Perhaps this is what is going on with yours.

..........I think this is what they call a seroma. Its basically just fluid
leaking out of the cells. I wonder if your dog is moving around too much.
Do you have his movement restricted in any way? Have you tried a warm wet
compress? Take a washcloth and soak in warm water (try it on your skin
first to make sure it's not too hot), wring out and put on the wound with a
dry cloth over the top. Hold gently to the lump. You can do this 2 or 3X a
day. Sometimes dogs really appreciate it. I did this on an eye once and
the dog leaned into it and moaned.
