Have you had your chi tested by a vet allergist to determine what s/he is
allergic to? It could be airborne, it could be something in the food....

Since you haven't given us much info, I'll tell you in a nushell how we
discovered what Ebony was allergic to, when we brought her into rescue.

She was covered in scabs. (we ruled out Mange etc)
I got her onto Raw as soon as I could, and I'm not a raw feeder. This helped
to keep all the grains out of her system for a few months. I discovered,
when I added Oatmeal, that she was highly allergic to it (skin reactions)
She is allergic to Chicken and any chicken additives (skin reactions) She
tolerates Organic brown rice.
So, I withdrew kibble for a few months then added one thing at a time.
We have her on Solid Gold Millenia now as she tolerates this best (beef and
fish). Before that I had her on California Natural Lamb and rice, which is
good for dogs with allergies, but I was afraid it wasn't complete enough for
nutrients. I noticed that she got really interested in my dog's poop after
awhile. They are on Royal Canin Natural Blens. I bet it smelled good to her.

Recommendations from the Animal Dermatologist- feed only a food with ONE
source of protien.

I know Chihuahua have small food than most dogs.
I do not think you should be looking at the food in General~ ie the make.
I had a German Shepherd that was really bad with skin trouble.
Hair falling out in rings on the face ~ears~ and feet.
Her tummy and under arms were really red.
She was tested for Ringworm and Cancer.
When she was cleared of that she had special baths and antibiotics.
She got worse until my vet said they had been talking about her case.
They thought it might be food.
He was correct.....it turned out to be Chicken.
You can look at all the different makes of food~yet it may just be one of
the ingredients of the food.
Once Chicken was taken out of her diet she was fine.
Because of a Pancreas problem she had been fed chicken for a few years.
Yet one day her body suddenly decided it didn't like it any more.
Pat.

I understand. Because there are other sourcs of carbohydrate I would
not readminister the oatmeal either BUT because I know the test
was questionable I would not conclude that my dog was allergic
to oatmeal.

Cheers to all,
