Another Zolo Update

Hi Everyone,

Well, Zolo got to see Dr. Stanzione today. Dr. Gil (as he's called)
looked at the x-rays and physically examined Zolo. He said that Zolo
isn't broken or damaged, but has a very sore throat or mouth from his
battle with the Lazy Boy. Problem is, Zolo still isn't eating. So, I
left Dr. Gil's office with a bag full of Meds that will hopefully help
Zolo recover and keep his belly full until he feels better (maybe a
couple or few days, maybe longer, he's not sure). First, a fluid called
Lactate Ringer (looks like green Gatorade) 50 cc's every twelve hours.
Then Reglan .06 cc's and Propulsid .25 cc's. Both are given twice a day
and are best administered after Zolo has his Critical Care. Oh yes,
Critical Care. 15-18 cc's at least three times a day or whenever the
other rabbits have a big meal. Right now we are giving Zolo shots of
Banamine. Both Banamine and Lactate Ringer are administered under the
skin of his back. The Lactate Ringer is a sophisticated sub-Q fluid.
We have three pre loaded syringes left, two for tomorrow and one for
Friday morning. Then we shift over to Metacam.

I had never met Dr. Stanzione before today, although his reputation
preceded him. I found him to be very friendly. He was soft spoken and
younger than I pictured him. He had black hair, about 5'8", medium
build. Also found him to be very reassuring. There were about four or
five examining rooms, one devoted to rabbits. Each room had a computer
in it, with a slide presentation as a screen saver. The rabbit room had
pictures of all kinds of rabbits and a picture of a kangaroo with a cast
on his leg. That was pretty cool. The other rooms had slide
presentations of dogs of all kinds.

One vet tech was a really nice woman named Sylvia. She showed me how to
put the needle in Zolo, and patiently showed and explained everything we
need to do. She mentioned that she was a volunteer in Dr. Saver's
office before her present job. Another vet in the office was Dr.
Pete. I don't know his last name. He's a vet that is not a rabbit
expert, but also kind and concerned. All in all, my experience at
Dakota Veterinary was a good one.

Thanks alot for the update.. Wow.. you are so brave.. but i would do
it too if i had to .. give sub q's.. i can put in IV's in people.. but
with animals.. i freak out with everything.... Poor Little Zolo...
please tell him I know what it feels like to have a sore jaw... (two
years ago. sixth jaw operation.. they transplanted two ribs into my
jaw.. ouch...).... take care my little "Z"..
