Finally saw this movie..:)) OH it was sooo cute !!! It was like
watching our Silber. Except our Silber is more of a thief !! LOL.
Well worth a watch if you haven't seen it already (New Zealand tends to
get everything last)

The dvd's got a cool extra on - a mini animated documentary hosted by
Remy & Emile about the history of the rat. Funny & informative.

The extras are a really nice touch, shows how much work went in to the
making of the film,
amazing. I bet the rats they had there got loads of attention :-)

I already have the DVD. It was a must-buy at Best Buy. I love how they
got rat movement down for the movie. I like watching the rats go up the
stairs, which is exactly what they look like. I have read/heard stories
about how the movie is inspiring more people to get rats as pets. I just
hope they go to good homes, in pairs or more, to people who have
educated themselves about owning rats. I know, I'm an idealist.

We can only wish on that one...

I remember the craze when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles came out and people
were going out and buying turtles as pets, not knowing anything about them.
Then when they grew too big just releasing them in any lake, pond etc

I wish pets shops would put signs on the cages of animals for sale which
thrive on being with company of their own kind, like gerbils and rats. It
wouldn't hurt to just pop a sign up saying something like, "I am happiest
living with one of more [rattie/gerbil/insert animal] friends" next to the
usual signs you nearly always see of "Careful I might bite".

Most of our local pet-shops do; also, a couple of years ago, I saw a
lovely doe, unfortunately on her own because there had been an odd
number of females in her litter (I'm pretty sure they were telling me
the truth, since she was healthy, the right weight, and very friendly,
so no real reason to have been left behind). I had to convince the girl
working there that I had other female rats at home for her to live with,
and that I knew how to introduce them, before I could buy her. _That's_
the kind of attitude I like in pet-shop staff.

There are a couple of poor pet-shops round here, one of which, last time
I went in, had a cage full o' rats resting on top of a cage full o'
kittens. The kittens were hyper, and the rats looked terrified. Plus,
they had some kind of infestation, and there was a pretty mangy-looking
full-grown buck gasping in another cage nearby. Mostly, though, the local
places are all good, and most include at least an information leaflet
when you buy a pair of rats, and often encourage you to buy a "starter
pack" (yes, I know, there's a good reason they like to sell a a pair of
rats, a large cage plus accessories, bedding, and food, and they don't
have only the rats' welfare at heart, but if it helps the rats, who cares
if they're making a little extra profit?)

Can you say Stuart Little?

3/4 of the kids who lived near me at the time wanted white mice.
One kid ended up with a PEW called Stuart Little. He ended up living
with me after the kid's were going to release him in the local park
(wild grass with owls and foxes, not formal lawns).

I've never seen a sign in the pet shops around here, unless they have just
started adding them - I've not been in a pet shop for about a year I think.
It's good if they do, and as you say it doesn't matter if it's mainly for
the extra profit that they do it, if the animals benefit too!

Poor little guy, I'm glad you came to his rescue.

Do you remember just before Christmas 2005, somebody even stole a baby
penguin from a zoo on the Isle of Wight, which was put down to all the
sudden interest in penguins because of the release of the film 'March of the
Penguins' at that time.
