Wood based cat litter....

In practical terms yes it is OK.

I've been using this compressed sawdust litter
for some time now, and have a particularly
"sensitive" drainage system which delights in
blocking at the faintest excuse.

So far absolutely no problems at all. The material
will just float away rather than settle and clog the
pipework.

In environmental terms, and "drain technology"
terms there would seem to be no problems either.

The stuff also seems to have an advantage over
other litter materials in that all it smells of when
peed over is the rather pleasant smell of fresh
cut sawdust.

You should consider selling it to Best Foods....they could market it as a
trail mix....:^)

The smell is quite pleseant strange as that may sound. My friends
parents used to run a kennels and cattery before they retired. They
gave me a tip not to fill the litter tray too full. I just put a
couple of handfuls of litter in the tray instead of filling it and it
don't seem to bother the cats. It makes it easier to keep clean as
well.

I use a pine based clumping litter that say's right on the package that it
is flushable. But only for sewer hook ups, if you are on septic you won't
want to do that. We just got our Green Bins here in Aurora (Ontario) and
they use the contents for composting, they accept kitty litter and waste,
plus small animal bedding, bird seed, shredded paper, and a bunch of other
things that should reduce our "garbage" by about 65%. You may want to look
into this in your area and find out if and when they are implementing the
same sort of program.
