Personally I'm not a fan of either, but I do recognize that for some it
might be the answer. The most important thing with either of these
collar types is that you learn *how* to use them. If you use them wrong,
you can definitely do some damage (I've heard accounts of dogs getting
their wind pipes punctured using a pinch collar improperly...)

I agree 100%. A big Lab can do real damage to itself and its owner. The
important point is that the owner is the Alpha. (and I don't mean that
in a cruel way)

Hi everyone. I'm the OP. Just an update on Cooper who we have had about 7
weeks now. We have had two visits by a dog trainer and keep working with
Cooper with things she has suggested. He now can be walked on the leash
down the road and he walks right nows to us without pulling. He knows we
are the leader. She brought over a special collar. It is nylon and almost
is two collars in one. One portion of the collar will tighten and losen if
he pulls, while the other part of the collar stays secure so he cannot get
out of it.

Cooper has quit chewing on blankets and rugs, as he gets a stuffed and
frozen Kong when he goes to bed and that both satisfies him and wears him
out for the night. He knows to look us in the eye for commands. He sits,
comes and stays on commend. We are working with getting him to lay down,
which he doesn't really want to do yet. He knows to sit off to the side of
his food dish until we say he can eat it. Cooper has turned out to be a
very smart young yellow lab. A good addition to the family.
