there are a variety of live catch traps available, but i've found mice are
usually pretty good at avoiding those most of the time.. hehee we had a
house full of wild mice when we moved in, only ever caught 1 in a live
trap.. but, we caught 3 in bags of trash.. (teenagers... *sigh*) my 17 year
old step son has a habit of leaving bags of trash (filled with old pizza
crusts) in the basement lounge... and we've caught 3 mice that way.. the
male we released to the wild, and the 2 females we put in with our female
pet mice.
they are very very skittish and are very good jumpers... and it wouldn't
surprise me if they might be able to get through the bars on the hamster
cage.. it will depend a lot on how far apart the bars are and how big the
mouse is.. all they need is an opening they can get their head through... if
you do catch it and want to keep it, i'd really suggest a 10 gallon fish
tank with a secure lid made with, at maximun, 1/4 inch wire mesh. and always
be very careful when removing the lid to change water and food... and for
bedding.. i'd recommend sterilized natural potting soil.. no chemical
fertilizers..a nice 2-3 inches in there so it can burrow and dig, and you
won't have to change the bedding as often as you would otherwise, cuz
catching it can be "exciting" (we still use leather gloves..)

definately.. depending on how you plan to use it.. we've used the drop a
bucket or bowl over it when recatching escaped pet mice.. (one got loose and
wandered my kitchen for 2 days before we caught him again....) and i know
of several others who have set up the bucket trap (put thick layer of
tissues or other soft stuff at bottom, bait and put a ramp to top of bucket
from outside, so they drop in and can't get back out.. just make sure it's a
tall bucket.. they're pretty good jumpers...)

Almost certainly yes. I have kept several wild mice as pets and most of
them could get out of a narrow-barred cage. I had to put hardware cloth
over the bars to prevent escape.
