Archived from groups: rec>pets>dogs>health (more info?)

Hi,

I recently posted on this NG about my dog Dougie and his slight hip
dysplasia, I mistakenly at first posted it to RPDB by mistake but got a lot
of good advice.
What I would like to know is many people have recommended vitamin c
supplement, can anyone give me any further info on this. Do I get it from my
vet or is it the same as human take and if so what dosage compared to dog
weight?

Is there any other supplements etc I can give him as a preventative measure
to slow the process of what's inevitable as he gets older? At the moment at
16 moths old Doug's hip causes him no pain that I am aware of and I have
only seen him a touch stiff legged on a few occasions. He is a 16 month old
Border Collie.

Any info / advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Michelle

many people have had good success with glucosamine and chondroitin
supplements; a friend's 15 yr old corgi bitch, classed as 'severely
dysplastic' by virtue of xrays still is able to play ball like a puppy
after a lifetime on glucosamine/chondroitin...unfortunately, i'm not
sure of dosage...

RDA Vitamin B-12 - On the net I found the RDA for Vitamim B-12 for humans is 6 mcg. On the net I also found the RDA for Vitamin B-12 for canines to be 0.022 mg/kg. My dog weighs about 8 kg so he would need 0.22 mg/kg * 8 kg which equals about 0.18 mg of B-12 per day. Now....

Canine Multi-vitamin with NO yeast? - I am following Dr. Pictairn's diet for dogs with allergies and one of the things he says I should give my dog is a multi-vitamin with no yeast. Apparently, yeast is something that dogs may have a tendency to be allergic to so until I figure out just WHA...
