Hello

Our baby rabbit Falin (The Female) has been rather violent lately, attacking
your arm when you go to pick her up, not every time but a few times and she
bit me the other day which she has never done.

We have had to give her some medicine lately (stopped now) due to some
infected cuts she had due to derek biting her when they were first
introduced, could it be that she thinks that everytime we pick her up we
will give her medicine??

or could it be that she is coming up to 6 months and hasnt been spayed yet
and she has hit maturity?

Thank you

Paul

paul, both of these may be causing falin to act out like that. is she
bonded with derek?

you may also want to visit the following website:

www.rabbit.org

there are a lot of useful articles. they also provide a search area for the
articles in their database.

hope you find out the reason.

Paul,

Let me tell you, Miss Chloe was a B**H until she was spayed! She was
very mean and tried to scratch/bite us when we picked her up. She
also wanted to dig EVERYWHERE. We gave her a box with a phone book
inside and she'd go in there and dig and dig and dig.

A month after her spay she settled down and became friendly again.

Paul, she will probably calm down after the spay. If she is near six
months, she is mature. Do you also plan to neuter Derek? If not, he will
continue to chase her and she may not be interested in him. If she is
anything like Jessie, it will stress her out. How old is Derek?

I'm glad that her wounds healed. Those bites can be nasty. Rabbits are
usually pretty forgiving, though. She'll forgive you for doctoring her
pretty quickly.

is she bonded with derek?

They were after the scuffling and chasing they began to be friends and we
joined there cages together to make 1 big cage, and they were getting along
fine, then when we were examining the female we found a big clump of hardend
hair so we took her to the vets and it was a cut which was infected so they
shaved her and gave us some antibiotics to give her so we separated them
while she healed....now she is better and the fur has grown back, but we
will have to introduce the rabbits again, dereks still chases her around and
i dont want him to bite her again...

Have been to that website before, its very good...

A bunny teen thing.

Tell her "quit!" and use your thumb (held back by the second finger)
to snap her on her shoulder. If she thinks about it and starts
posturing to do it, tell her "no!" and push her away.

(I know this approach is not popular because it involves some physical
reprimands but I have little to no tolerance for aggressive behavior
in any critter, be it rabbit or horse. Bunny needs to learn not to
invade your space without permission).

Now when she's a good girl, praise her and scratch her nose or cheek
(whereever her favorite scratchy spot is). Teach her that hands are
to be respected, but that hands also give out good things like
scratchies.

I'll bet that you find things calm down after she is spayed. Falin probably
needs a lot of nose scritches and reassurance that she is in a safe place.
I have a feeling that she is in a good home.

Jessie didn't warm up to us until she was about 8 months old. She used to
cringe when we'd touch her. She would whine and avoid us anyway she could.
I guess that one day it clicked with her that she was safe. She is still an
introverted bunny, but she loves to be petted and made over. In fact, she
demands it ;)

BTW, I didn't say it before... welcome to apr.

Hi Paul,

Like other people have said, I bet you'll find she improves once she's been
spayed. I believe that unspayed females tend to be more feisty and prone to
aggression than non-neutered males.

I also wanted to say welcome to apr - I had a look at your pictures, and you
don't live far away from us! I'm in New Milton on the edge of the New
Forest, and have two lop-eared rabbits, Daffy and Eric.

Looking forward to hearing more about Derek and Falin. Falin is an
interesting name - I seem to remember it from Bambi, but I could be wrong?

Again, welcome!

As for the name I found it on the internet on a webpage of girls names and
picked it out of hundreds...it might be in Bambi I cant say i watch that
film very often...

More Pics of the rabbits coming very soon, see other post i have made today.
