I don't have an answer to that. But I did see the 'Atlanta Dogs' the other
day. They appeared to be in good hands, with people who understood the
breed and were properly rehabbing them. Felt sorry for the poor black dog
with so many previous bites and wounds, scars, etc. Yet it seemed to have
come through okay. Was it the brown dog that was so
skittish/frightened/cowered still? Poor thing, I hoped it would eventaully
gain some confidence and security with life.

Elegy said in part....
Or, at least, the Vick dogs in Bad Rap's custody.
I still want to know how the dogs placed in "sanctuary" for life can be
of sound and stable temperament but yet not be acceptable for foster
situations and adoption.......

Elegy,
I have had a slight change of heart about sanctuary dogs in general.
I have watched 3 episodes of "Dog Town", it is partially about the dogs
at Best Friends Sanctuary. It was on Nat Geo and followed CM, curiously
it was not on air this past Friday?
The first episode left me ambivalent. The 2nd episode I cried my ass
off. The 3rd episode brought me back to my reality. One portion of it
profiled a dog aggressive Lab mix? (not sure about that part) Now after
11 years at the sanctuary they have deemed him not aggressive and he is
up for adoption. WTF is up with that?
I may have changed my mind just a bit about sanctuaries, at least that
particular one. The dogs seem to be well cared for and most importantly
have interaction with humans. They even found a home for a dog that
could not control his bowels, and would fall when walking. Amazing!!!
I am now commenting directly to your post. I feel so badly for the
Vick dogs, but there isn't a chance in Hell that I would ever take one,
even if I had no dogs. I am sure some of them could have come through
this ordeal and be sound. How many, and how will we ever know for sure?
I really resent the time, money, and effort spent to keep the Vick dogs
alive. I can only just imagine, if a Vick dog was placed and if
anything happened (I do mean anything) such as a toe nail scratching
you. There would be Hell to pay. There are thousands of dogs being
euthanized every day and many of them have a sound temperament that has
been proven or they are puppies that haven't had a chance. Of course it
isn't the Vick dogs fault that they ended up being tortured by their
captors, I just don't see why there is so much effort being put forth to
save them, when other fighting dogs live until the trial and are then
automatically disposed of. The money Vick was forced to pay for dogs
could be so better spent IMO.
Thanks for the link, it was informative. I did not know what the
dogs' status was. Please post any updates you may come across. I
thought I had read some of the dogs were going to Best Friends' have you
heard that? Thanks again, it is a sad situation, any way you look at
it.

I don't consider holding them in storage for the rest of their lives
exactly humane.

it's the same way with any dogs. Warehousing will never be "right".

The local NPR affiliate ran a little clip on what's happening with the Vick
dogs, on Saturday:.

That was Bad Rap's take on it.
