After our vet visit, Liza has been up and down. I gave her the liquid
baytril and it has been a fight everytime. Even doing the burrito thing. I
gave her some more simethicone a little while ago, and have two new bites
and my hand and arm, she drew blood this time. Her paw is better and does
not seem to bother her, but the small amount of poops is worrying me, I am
going to get her back for a follow-up, she still has plenty of hay
available, too. Please send massive poop vibes for my little girl, it
would be appreciated. Carla and Liza. >> Stay informed about: Need Vibes Please |

Hopefully, you have some critical care to force feed her
if your vet has ruled out a blockage. It took weeks,
actually a month and 1/2 before Bucky would he own
his own. But, one thing for sure, once we started pumping
the critical care in him, we got poops. If hydration is an
issue too, for Liza, you can give her a watery critical care
mixture, like I did with Bucky. Will keep you guys in our
Bunny Prayers!

However - that's not always the case! When Rosie was on CC for her broken
pelvis, there was very little poop for almost 2 weeks!

Well, that is when you have to pause and be concerned.
With Bucky, he was getting over 80 cc's of watery
critical care / a day. And, it came out right away. If you
are doing the same, (given the same bunny weight), you
need to do the check and balance thing. I mean if the
bunny is eating it, the cecum can really only hold so much.
So, maybe you where only giving Rosie a little bit of
critical care?

Well, about 40 cc as I recall - but the vet said it was mostly water and the
nutrients are very concentrated, so there wasn't really all that much to
poop out. She did pee a good bit...perhaps it was too painful with the
broken pelvis...I don't know, but those first few pellets were sure welcome!

Well, that would make sense then on the low poops
and 'them' not coming out right away. And, I forgot
to mention that an empty cecum can take a few
days to fill up and put out. If I recall, Rosie is over
6 or 7 lbs. or so.......... Sasha needed like 240 cc's
of food each day and that was concentrated to keep
her going. Bucky is only a Mid-Size (dwarf). Anyway,
all things being equal and catching things early, a bunny
should start pooping after a day or two..............
(in regards to *real* force feeding)

I missed the first post about this, so I'm not sure what's going on, but
that doesn't stop me from sending these:
{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{LOTSA POOPS}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
How are things, Carla? Any news?
I would recommend sub-cu fluids as well when there are poop issues. They can
help a lot, and they won't do any harm. It's not so hard to do, either, once
you get used to it. (There are a few of us around who can tell some stories
about the learning curve, though.) Easier than getting Baytril in, I think!
Please let us know what's happening.

Carla,
Please know that I'm thinking about you and Liza. Due to my work
schedule, I've not had as much to post as I'd like, but I've been
following your news about sweet Liza and hoping for the best. Liza is
in my prayers.
